Hundreds of people including the people with disability of Basudevpur village under Jhenidah Sadar upazila protested killing of housewife Shapla Khatun, 21. They formed a human chain on Saturday morning when the body of Shapla arrived at the village.

Shapla Khatun’s father Seraj Uddin of Basudevpur village said Shapla was married to Nayan Hossain, son of Nasir Mandal of Mathurapur village in same upazila about three years back.

Since the marriage, Shapla’s father-in-law Nasir Uddin had been trying to develop illicit relation. Shapla left the house of her husband several times protesting the matter.

On Wednesday, the father-in-law tried to violate the housewife. When Shapla had soughed, locals

rushed to spot and she was escaped anyway then.

Later, Nayan started beating up Shapla and hanged her with a bamboo made ceiling at the house. The neighbors rescued the housewife and sent to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital. She was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday night.

Officer-in-Charge of Jhenidah Sadar police station Mijanur Rahman Khan said that they are trying to arrest the accused.
