IUB Korean Festival amidst celebration

As part of the initiative to spread Korean culture throughout the country, The Korean Club of Independent University, Bangladesh hosted their flagship event, “The Korean Festival 2020” on 4th and 5th March in collaboration with the Department of Media & Communication. The club organized a two-day event which is open for all. 

The inauguration took place on the morning of March 4 with ribbon cutting ceremony and vibrant and zestful performances by the members of Dance Club of IUB. The inaugural session was attended by Prof Milan Pagon, Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of IUB, Dr Imtiaz Hussain, Dean (Acting), School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Prof Zakir Hossain Raju, Head, Department of Media and Communication and advisor of IUB K-Club, Ms Raiyana Rahman, Faculty Coordinator IUB  K-Club and other faculty members and students of IUB. The opening ceremony was followed by a K-Pop Music and Dance Competition, with competitors participating from within and outside of the university. 

The university campus has been adorned with colorful decorations for the event. There were several stalls selling Korean food, skin care products, merchandise and many more products representing Korean culture. 

On 5th March, a seminar and language workshop was conducted by Joseph Kim, a renowned YouTube vlogger aka “Korean Bhai” which will be followed by the film screening of the third most grossing Korean film, Exit (2019). The festival ended with a Prize Giving ceremony.

This year, the Korean festival is being organized in collaboration with IUB Journalism Club, IUB Music Club, IUB Dance Club, IUB Film Club and IUB English Language Club. The Radio Partner for the event is Dhaka FM 90.4 and the Media Partner is Dhaka Tribune.

It is to mention that IUB K-Club was an extension of the unique course titled KRN 112: Korean Cinema and Society at the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) which was introduced by Prof Zakir Hossain Raju back in 2015. This course is one of its kind in South Asia.
