Internet service providers and cable operators on Saturday suspended their previous decision to block access to the web for three hours across the country.

Internet service providers and cable operators on Saturday suspended their previous decision to block access to the web for three hours across the country, reports UNB.

Earlier they came up with the decision of internet shutdown protesting the removal of overhead wires by the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in the capital.

MA Hakim, president of Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) and Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) president SM Anowar Parvez confirmed the matter.

“We will sit in a meeting with the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Sunday morning over the matter,” Hakim said.

“Hopefully the meeting will bring positive outcomes. We will wait until Prime Minister’s direction following assurance of the Minister. Expect the matter will be resolved within a week,” he added.

Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and other leaders of ISPAB, COAB were also present there.

ICT Minister said DSCC will stop removing overhead wires until an alternative resolution is found.

“We have asked the service providers and cable operators to wait for some more days for a rational solution to the matter,” he said.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak said “We have requested ISPAB, COAB to wait for seven days as we are discussing with the authorities to fulfill their demands.”

Earlier, ISPAB, COAB declared to shutdown internet connection across the country from 10 am to 1pm if the DSCC don’t abstain from cutting the overhead wires within Oct 14.
