Interest of both owners and workers to be preserved for survival of RMG industry: Tipu Munshi

Commerce minister Tipu Munshi on Friday said the prices of sweat of workers is no less than the blood, the cordial effort of both the owners and workers have brought the country’s RMG industry in today’s position so the interest of both sides must be preserved and the union leaders have be serious in this regard. 

Minister said, side by side ensuring due wages of the workers, the fair prices of products of owners also have to ensure otherwise the industry will not survive. 

Tipu Munshi was addressing the 16th Bi-Annial Convention-2022 of the ‘Jatyo Garments Sromik Federation’ as chief guest at the National Press Club.

Recognizing the contribution of the workers in establishing the country’s economy on a farm footing, Minister said that with the directives of Prime Minister the government is selling most essential commodities including oil, sugar, dal to one crore low income families in the country at a very reasonable price and now adding rice to this list is under process. This initiative helps at least five corers of people directly and indirectly.

“The demand of workers to increase wages is valid in consideration of price hike of almost all commodities. I think a wage commission could be formed who will work on determine the livelihood cost of workers and they should be paid with the rational wages”, Minister added.

He urged the workers leaders to the responsible as well as the owners to be rational in all aspects.

President of the  ‘Jatyo Garments Sromik Federation’ Amirul Haque Amin presided over the convention while former Minister and Bangladesh Workers Party President, Rashed Khan Menon, Shamsun Nahar MP, Advocate Jobeda Parvon also spoke among others on the occasion.
