Integrated efforts stressed to ensure justice to trafficking victims

Integrated efforts and sincere coordination in the works of all government and non-government organizations concerned could be the best ways for ensuring justice of Trafficking-in-Persons (TIP) victims.

 The observation came at a human trafficking-related Case Monitoring Conference held at Begum Rokeya conference room of RDRS Bangladesh in the city on Thursday night.  Winrock International organised the event under the USAID-funded Fight Slavery and Trafficking-in-Persons (FSTIP) Activity project.

 Judge of the Anti-Human Trafficking Prevention Tribunal of Rangpur Mrs. Israt Jahan presided over the conference.

 Officials of the Anti-Human Trafficking Prevention Tribunal and different government departments, NGO executives, civil society members, human rights and development activists and journalists participated in the conference.

 Advocate A A M Munir Chowdhury of Bangladesh Supreme Court and Rangpur Judge Court presented the keynote paper titled “Obstacles and Actions in Access to Justice to Prevent Human Trafficking” in the conference.

 Senior Prosecution Manager of Winrock International Advocate Mozahidul Islam discussed the overall objectives of the conference.  

 Taking part in open discussions, the participants put forward a set of recommendations on how to ensure justice to ease sufferings of the TIP victims and sensitize people to come to the tribunal to litigate such occurrences happening regularly in the community.  

 Tribunal Judge Mrs. Israt Jahan stressed the need for collective efforts of all concerned to create social awareness on trafficking issues and justice of human trafficking victims through speeding up the legal procedure of trafficking cases.She also called upon all stakeholders to support collectively in functioning of the tribunal effectively to dispose of the cases at the earliest possible times.

Regional Coordinator (Rajshahi and Rangpur) of Winrock International Md. Khairul Islam moderated different sessions of the conference.
