Int’l conference on Sustainable Dev at DU on July 6-7

An international conference for economists on “Inclusive Growth for Sustainable Development” will be held on 6-7 July, 2019 at Dhaka University (DU), reports BSS. 

Bureau of Economic Research (BER) of DU will organise the conference in collaboration with the DU Department of Economics with the aim to bring together academic researchers to promote and exchange ideas in the field of economics and development.

Planning Minister M A Mannan, MP will attend the inaugural session as the chief guest while DU VC Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman will inaugurate it at 9 am on July 6 at DU Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium.

The inaugural session will also be addressed by Chairperson of DU Economics Department Prof Shafique-uz-Zaman, Prof M M Akash and Prof Dr Nazma Begum.

The conference will consist of ten academic paper presentation sessions and seven thematic panel discussion sessions.

There will be two high-level panel discussion sessions on the first day of the conference. The session on ‘Poverty and Inequality’ will be chaired by Prof Wahiduddin Mahmud where the keynote paper will be presented by Prof S R Osmani, a veteran economist from the University of Ulster, UK.

Prof Dr Atiur Rahman and Prof M M Akash will be present as the distinguished panelists of the session. The second session on ‘Trade and Regional Connectivity for Shared Prosperity’ will be chaired by Prof Mustafizur Rahman where trade experts from the region such as Prof Dr Prabir De (India), Dr Parash Kharel (Research Director, SAWTEE) and Dr M Abdur Razzaque (former Head of International Trade Policy, Commonwealth Secretariat, London) will be present as distinguished panelists.

The closing ceremony of two-day long conference will be held at 5 pm on 07 July at DU Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, MP will attend it as the chief guest.
