A Dhaka court Monday set September 1 to hold hearing on charge framing in two defamation cases against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, reports BSS.
Monday was fixed for holding hearing on the matters, but the defence pleaded to allow them time in the two cases. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor then reset the date accepting the time plea of Khaleda’s counsel.
Journalist Gazi Zahirul Islam on August 30, 2016, filed one case against the BNP chief for observing fake birthday on August 15. Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddiqui filed another defamation case on November 3, 2016, against Khaleda Zia and her late husband Ziaur Rahman for stigmatizing War of Liberation by rehabilitating anti- Liberation War elements. The BNP chairperson is now in bail in these two cases as Dhaka metropolitan session judge Imrul Kayes allowed her pleas on July 31, 2018.
