Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka tomorrow (Monday) on a three day official visit to Bangladesh.

This will be the first visit of S Jaishankar after being made Foreign Minister in last May.

During his visit Jaishankar will hold talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen. They will discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of common interests.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that bilateral issues will be discussed with the Indian Foreign Minister during this visit.

It is learnt that Jaishankar will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during his stay in capital Dhaka.

The Indian Foreign Minister is expected to return to New Delhi on August 21.

When the Indian High Commission in Dhaka was contacted they informed that “Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is coming to Dhaka on August 19th. He will return on August 21 after the tour.”

According to the Indian High Commission, a Foreign Office Consultation meeting on all matters of bilateral issues between the two Ministers will be held.

Earlier Jaishankar had a meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on June 14 immediately after taking over the office of External Affairs Ministry of India.

At that time, the Foreign Minister attracted the attention of the Indian Foreign Minister in carrying out the much-anticipated Teesta deal and stopping the killings at the border. Foreign Minister sought India’s active support and cooperation in solving the Rohingya crisis. In answer to that the Indian Foreign Minister assured the necessary cooperation in this regard, saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has shown sensitivity in promoting India's goodwill and relations with neighboring countries.

The Indian Foreign Minister mentioned Bangladesh's unique potential and geopolitical advantage as the gateway to India's eastern economic diplomacy. Jaishankar then said, “Strengthening BIMSTEC will be beneficial for both countries. India places greater importance on regional connectivity.”

Contextually, Dr AK Abdul Momen made his first foreign trip to New Delhi last January at the invitation of India after taking office as Foreign Minister.
