Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar wrote to his Bangladesh counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen conveying his heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to victims of the unfortunate accident at the Baitus Saldam Mosque in Narayanganj on Friday.

“We are saddened to learn about the terrible loss of lives and injuries due to the unfortunate accident at the Baitus Saldam Mosque in Narayanganj on Friday,” he wrote.

“On behalf of the government and the people of India, I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to you and to the people of Bangladesh, particularly to the bereaved families. I pray for an expeditious recovery of those injured.”

So far, 27 people have died and 10 others are under treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka with critical injuries from a near-simultaneous explosion of six air conditioners in the mosque.
