The Indian government has awarded all the promised scholarships to Bangladeshi students despite pandemic and the money has been transferred online.

High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das on Monday interacted virtually with a group of the recipients of the new ‘India Bangladesh Maitree MuktiJoddha Sontan Scholarship 2019-20’.

Students said that the scholarship amount would be “extremely useful” to them amidst pandemic.

They thanked the High Commission for timely support.

Some 1,925 students including HSC & Under graduate students who are descendants of Muktijoddhas were awarded the scholarship as part of the new scheme.

The Indian government has sanctioned 10,000 scholarships for heirs of Muktijoddhas over five years and the scheme was started in 2017-2018.

Undergraduate students will get a one time amount of Tk50,000 and Higher Secondary students Tk20,000.

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs of Bangladesh has partnered with Indian High Commission to select deserving students covering all districts of Bangladesh.
