Import of 3.6 lakh tonnes of fertilisers okayed

The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved three  proposals for the purchase of 360,000 tonnes of fertilizer from Tunisia, Belarus and the  Kafco at a cost of Tk 263.98 crore.

The approval came from a CCPP meeting held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Shahida Akhter said 14 proposals have been placed for the approval of the Procurement Committee. 

Of  these, five were from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, two from the Ministry of Agriculture, two from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, two from the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, one from the Ministry of Food, one from the Ministry of Industries and one from the Ministry of Water Resources. 

Of these, eight purchase proposals have been approved. The total cost will be Tk 2,577.87 crore.

She said the CCPP has approved the import of 150,000 tonnes of TSP fertilizer from Tunisia by the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) under the Ministry of Agriculture. 

The price of fertilizer has been fixed at $568 per ton. The total cost will be Tk 723.77 crore. The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved a proposal to import 180,000 tonnes of MOP fertilizer from Belarus. 

The price of fertilizer per tonne has been fixed at $292.87. As such, the total expenditure will be Tk 446.82 crore.

Besides, a proposal from the Ministry of Industry for direct purchase was raised. 

The proposal is to purchase 30,000 metric tonnes of bagged granular urea in the 14th lot from Karnafuli Fertilizer Company Limited (Kafco) by Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries. 

The committee approved the proposal . The price per tonne of fertilizer has been fixed at $ 362.50. The total cost will be Tk 92.38 crore.
