State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk Wednesday said immediate actions would be taken if any embankment collapses due to cyclone Amphan, which hit the country on Wednesday evening, reports BSS.
“If there is any news of embankment collapse due to cyclone Amphan, action will be taken immediately,” he said while addressing an emergency meeting over the aftermath of cyclone Amphan at his office at the Secretariat in the capital, a press release said.
All the union parishad chairmen of erosion-prone areas have been asked to keep contact with the authorities concerned so that they can be informed about embankment collapse immediately, he said.
To tackle the havoc of the cyclone, the Director General of Bangladesh Water Development Board has been directed to ensure all out efforts of all concerned of the Water Development Board at field level so that they can deal with the damages caused by Amphan and resolve it, he added.
Meanwhile, referring to disaster preparedness, Deputy Minister for Water Resources Ministry AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, MP, said in order to prevent the loss of life and property due to the cyclone Amphan, authorities of the
coastal districts have been instructed to take precautionary measures.
The nature and location of the cyclone is being monitored round the clock, the deputy minister added.
Such kind of steps have been taken in advance on May 17 through a video conference with all field level officials and deputy commissioners, he added.
