Humayun for building low- carbon cities

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Sunday called upon all to build low-carbon cities to utilise the opportunities of the fourth industrial revolution, reports BSS.

“Through building low-carbon cities, it will be easier to tackle the challenges of eco-friendly industrialization, neighborhood protection and cultural heritage,” he said. The minister said this while speaking as the guest of honour at the inaugural session of the “2nd World Eco-Design Conference (WEDC)” at the Guangzhou Bishuiwan Hot Spring Resort in China on Saturday, said a press release here today.

Humayun urged countries of the Asia-Pacific region to work on mutual assistance to achieve the goals of sustainable industrialization and environment-friendly urbanization in light of world-class industrial technology and neighborhood design.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, Bangladesh is moving forward to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) after achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). “Bangladesh is accelerating the activities of environment-friendly industrialization for achieving the Vision-2021 and Vision-2041,” he added.

Among others, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Li Young, Chief Executive Officer of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Andrew Morlet and Corporate Vice President of the Riko Industry Company Limited Kazumi Hanada spoke on the occasion.
