The recent introduction of National Plan of Action for Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking 2018-22 promises a multifaceted development opportunity which will focus on improving economic and social conditions of vulnerable groups and building capacity of the administrations. In continuation to fulfilling that aim the government institutions are increasing their ability to counter human trafficking. Moreover, reports have been published in this daily which shows that the ministries concerned with the welfare of vulnerable groups and victims like Ministries of Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment are going to implement projects which are going to prove efficient in curbing human trafficking.
According to a report by UNICEF, from the northern areas of the country nearly four thousand people are being trafficked to the neighbouring and various other countries. Out of which 400 are children. In the last decade three lakh people including children between the ages 12 to 30 were trafficked. According to the National Human Council, in 2016, 58 people were trafficked and 128 went missing.

However, citizens are being led astray by brokers and a racket of human trafficking syndicate. On another note, recent reports published in this daily explicate that the government is determined to put the hammer to the anvil in terms of human trafficking which is a very admirable initiative.
The recent few months have seen a number of cases where Bangladeshi citizens have fallen victims to traps set by brokers of human trafficking rackets. There have been more similar incidents when Bangladeshis have been caught while trying to get into European countries. The issue of human trafficking has so far been under the radar as to who or what organisation is doing all this. But recently it has come to light that a syndicate tempts youngsters through giving them hopes of well paid jobs abroad but inreality they are misleading them.
The authorities concerned with this countrywide crackdown should consider rooting out this problem once and for all so it should not come back again.
