Human trafficker gets life

A Laxmipur court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to a person for his involvement in human trafficking of a minor boy of Bamoni village under Raipur upazila of the district on November 2 in 2016.  The convict is Raju Hossain Emon, son of late Harun-or-Rashid, hailed from Bamoni union of Raipur upazila. The court also fined Tk50, 000, inadvertently 3 months more imprisonment.

Judge Mohammad Sirajuddaula Kutubi of Lakshmipur human trafficking prevention and repression tribunal court handed down the verdict. Another two accused Shahida Begum and Farida Yasmin were released after finding them innocent. Convict Raju was not present at the time of verdict.

According to court, baby Abdullah (4), son of Md Hanif was abducted from Bamoni village of the upazila for land conflict on 2nd November, 2016. Later, Raju sold the baby for Tk30, 000.  After finding nowhere, baby's mother Amena Begum filed a case accusing five persons with Raipur Police Station. On Dec 1 of that year, police rescued the baby from Chandpur district.

Police submitted a charge sheet accusing three people in the court. After getting the statements from 11 witnesses, the judge ordered life imprisonment.
