A Dhaka Court on Tuesday placed Hefajat-e-Islam's former joint secretary general Mamunul Haque and its Dhaka city unit's former president Junayed Al Habib on different terms of remand in five cases filed with Paltan Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder placed Mamunul on a five-day remand in two cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the recent violence in Dhaka centring the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 26.
Earlier two investigators produced him before the court with a 17-day remand prayer.
The court also granted four-day remand for Junayed in three cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem and the recent violence in Dhaka after three investigators submitted a 24-day remand prayer for him.
The court passed the orders after Mamunul and Junayed were produced before the court on completion of their seven-day remand in two cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations over the 2013 mayhem and recent violence in Dhaka.
Defence lawyer submitted five separate petitions seeking bail for the accused along with cancellation of the remand prayers.
After hearing both sides, the magistrate rejected the defence pleas and placed them on different terms of remand in the cases.
Meantime, Mamunul was shown arrested in six other cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem in Dhaka while Junayed was shown arrested in two more cases over the same offences.
On April 18,Mamunul was arrested from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa of the capital's Mohammadpur area.
On April 17, Junayed was arrested from Baridhara area in the city
