Government has planned to keep doctors and health staffs, who are providing medical treatment for the corona patients, at near-by places of the hospitals. Health and Family Welfare Ministry is preparing the lists of the local guest houses to ensure residential facilities of these doctors, ministry sources said.

The health ministry has already sent letters to deputy commissioners of all the districts and UNOs of all the upazilas seeking list of different government accommodations including local guest houses immediately. The official letters was signed by Khandaker Zakir Hossain, a deputy secretary of the ministry.

Ministry sources said the government is planning to arrange accommodations for doctors and nurses who are serving the coronavirus patients near their hospitals. It is mentionable that doctors and nurses on coronavirus duty at different districts in the country are reportedly facing acute crisis of vehicles since the closure of all public transports a week ago.

In this situation, DC and UNOs have been asked to identify local residential facilities and send a list of those facilities to the ministry, the letter said. Taking to the Bangladesh Post on Tuesday evening, Manikganj Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous said, “Till now, I have not received any such letter.”

Responding to another question, he said, “The doctors coming from outside Manikganj, will be deployed in this district only after finding any coronavirus case.” So far, no coronavirus case has been detected in Manikganj. But if any case is detected, expert doctors may be needed for providing medical treatment to the patients, he further said.

In that case, he continued, we shall take necessary steps for providing accommodation to these expert physicians. Dr Mamunur Rashid, Health Officer of Saturia thana in Manikganj, however, admitted of getting such letter regarding the accommodation of the doctors for coronavirus patient.

He said, “I have already talked to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer over the issue. We will have detail discussion tomorrow (Wednesday).” Responding to another question, he said, “There are two places for accommodation: one is a government-owned rest house and another one is Gonoshasthaya Kendra’s training centre at Saturia.”
