The High Court has summoned Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kushtia Mohammad Saidul Islam, police super Md Khairul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushita Sadar police station Md Sabbirul Alam and managing director (MD) of BRAC Bank Selim R. F. Hossain and businessman Abdur Rashid over contempt of court.

The HC bench of Justice Abu Taher Saifur Rahman and Justice AKM Rabiul Hasan summoned them on Thursday.

The higher court summoned them in the case of selling a property worth Tk 123 crore at auction only for Tk 15 crore despite the stay of the court. Abdur Rashid, the businessman, bought the property at auction.

Abdur Rashid and others have been asked to appear in the court on August 21 and give an explanation. At the same time, Shafiqul Islam, the owner of that property, has been asked to prove the possession within 24 hours.

Barrister Ragib Rauf Chowdhury argued for the petition in the court, while Deputy Attorney General Wais Al Haruni represented the state.

The Deputy Attorney General confirmed the matter to the media. He said that on August 2, M/s Biswas Traders, owned by businessman Shafiqul Islam, suspended the auction of VIP Rice Mill and VIP Flour Mill for three months. At the same time, BRAC Bank was asked to pay Tk 20 crore within a month.

But in violation of the court order, on August 5, with the help of the police, the property of businessman Shafiqul Islam, worth Taka 123 crore, was sold at auction to Rashid Enterprises, owned by prominent rice trader Abdur Rashid of Kushtia. Afterwards, a contempt of court case  was filed against those involved in the auction.
