HC rules on giving Tk 1 crore to Renu’s family

The High Court (HC) on Tuesday ordered authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why they shall not be directed to give Tk one crore to the family of Taslima Begum Renu who was killed in a mob beating in North Badda area in the capital on July 20, reports BSS.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal issued the rule after holding hearing on a writ filed in this regard. The court asked secretary of Public Security Division, Education Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Officer in-charge of Badda Police Station, Headmaster of North Badda Government Primary School and its governing body president to reply the rule.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Ishrat Hasan moved the writ for the family of Renu, while Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy appeared for the state. Taslima Begum Renu, 40, a single-mother of two, was brutally beaten to death by a mob in suspicion of being a child lifter, in front of North Badda Government Primary School in the morning on July 20.
