A steel-made sculpture of a guitar titled ‘Rupali Guitar’ has been recently inaugurated at Prabartak intersection in port city Chattogram, in honour of the memory of legendary rock singer of the country Ayub Bachchu. The sculpture has been made of stainless steel and is 18 feet tall. The base on which it has been placed is 4.5 feet high. Financed by a private company, the sculpture has been built at an expense of Tk 30 million.

The whole project includes beautification of the road and construction of a walkway. Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin formally inaugurated the sculpture along with a fountain at the intersection. “This ‘Rupali Guitar’ was installed in memory of legendary singer Ayub Bachchu, a native of Chattogram,” the mayor said during the unveiling.

The guitar statue was wrapped in black cover, and after the statue was uncovered on Monday, passersby began to gather around the fountain. Some were seen taking selfies with the memorial. A fountain has also been built around the statue. 16 different lights will reflect on the fountain in the evening while the guitar will sparkle in the sunlight. The statue has been dedicated to the memory of the legendary singer.

Ayub Bachchu, also the lead vocal of rock band LRB, died in Dhaka on October 18 last year, at the age of 60. The legendary singer and guitarist was buried at the Chaitanya lane graveyard in Chattogram. He was a revolutionary rock singer of the country, and he impressed his listeners with modern, classic, and folk songs.
