The land grabbers in league with the local influential persons on Friday launched an attack on cops and officials of national housing authority in Rupnagar residential area at Mirpur, injuring three of them.

When the officials of national housing authority and police tried to bar the grabbers from breaking the boundary walls of the land owners, they came under the attack, sources said. Karim, an eyewitness and a car driver of National Housing Authority said, “Two months ago, National Housing Authority evicted the land grabbers from this area and gave the lands to the original plot owners. After receiving their plots, the original owners started constructing walls on their land. But the grabbers vandalised the area on Friday.”

He said, “When police officials and housing authority went to restrain them, the land grabbers attacked them, leaving two cops and a field officer injured. They also vandalised a police car.” An official of the National Housing Authority said, “The grabbers have illegally occupied about 30 acres land in Rupnagar residential area for years.

We evicted them two months ago but they are trying to reoccupy the land.”
