Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the government did not take any decision about the toll for using the Padma Bridge, reports BSS.

“Construction work of the Padma Bridge is progressing. But, how can I speak about toll for using the bridge as the toll is yet to be decided,” he said at a press conference at his ministry office in the capital. All passenger-carrying vehicles have to pay toll, said Quader also Awami League General Secretary, adding fixing of toll for using different highways will be brought under a rule.

The Road, Transport and Bridges Ministry is working in this regard, the minister said, adding “We are thinking about imposing toll on using the national highways with four, six and eight lanes or on the newly built highways”. Replying to a question about Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Quader said after scrutiny Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself picked the current president and secretary of BCL.

“I just declared the names of the presidents and secretaries of BCL central committee, university committee and Dhaka City North and South committee. But Prime Minister herself picked them,” he added. Any amendment or change to BCL will be handled by the Prime Minister herself, AL general secretary said.

Asked about advance council of BCL, the minister said, “I yet to get any information about advance council of BCL. It’s an internal matter of the party. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself is looking into the matter. She asked four party leaders to look into the BCL’s matter.”
