‘Govt turning disabled population into human resources’

The present government is turning the disabled population into human resources by imparting proper training and providing various facilities for their development and mainstreaming in the society, reports BSS.

Government officials said this at a post-rally discussion held at Town Hall auditorium on Thursday afternoon to observe the 28th International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 21st National Day of Persons with Disabilities-2019 The district administration and Department of Social Services (DSS) with other organisations working for the welfare of disabled people organised rally, drawing and sports competitions, cultural programs and prize distribution ceremony marking the day.

Rangpur Protibondhi Foundation, Badhir Sangha, World Vision Bangladesh, Prottyasha Protibondhi Nari O Shishu Unnayan Sangstha, Rangdhanu Zila Protibondhi Adhikar Sangstha, Leprosy Mission, Dristi Sangstha, Rangdhanu, ADD International, Protibondhi Seba o Sahajjya Kendra and other organisations extended cooperation to observe the day.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan attended the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the DSS Mossarraf Hossain in the chair. Deputy Police Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Mohidul Islam, Divisional Director of the DSS Anil Chandra Barman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Hirombo Kumar Roy, Assistant Director of DSS for Rangpur Humayun Kabir addressed as special guests.

Mossarraf Hossain discussed the massive programs being implemented by the government for mainstreaming the disabled persons in the society through ensuring their constitutional and human rights, development and empowerment.

The speakers underscored the need for establishing disabled-friendly atmosphere for ensuring rights to education, health care and social honour with dignity for the disabled people to properly flourish their inherent talents and abilities.

The Deputy Commissioner said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is making the disabled population self-employed and self-reliant through providing various training and necessary assistance.

He especially stressed on engaging comprehensive GO-NGO efforts with a changed social mindset toward the physically challenged people in ensuring their rights and proper development to make them self-reliant.

“In order to ensure that no one remained unemployed, the DSS is providing training and support in various ways to persons with disabilities who are also contributing to the national advancement on way to build a development country by 2041,” he said.
