Govt to look into attacks on Nur: Kamal

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday said the government will look into the matter of repeated attacks on DUCSU vice-president Nurul Haque Nur. “We will enquiry into the repeated attacks on Nur,” he said while replying to a reporter’s question after a function of Soviet Alumni Association at Wasa Bhaban in the city’s Karwan Bazar.

The minister said a case was filed over the incident at Dhaka University and police have already arrested some people, adding, “Those who were seen on the spot will be detained.” Earlier, Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) Vice President (VP) Nurul Haque and 22 others were injured in an attack out by some people.

A case was filed on Tuesday against 30-35 leaders and activists of Muktijuddho Mancha, including its central general secretary Al Mamun and DU unit GS Yasir Arafat Turjo, for their alleged involvement in the incident. Al Mamun and Yasir Arafat Turjo were detained by detectives on Monday. The minister assured that all accused would be arrested soon.

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Muktijuddho Mancha allegedly carried out the attack on Nur and his associates at DUCSU building on Sunday, Nur alleged. He said that more than twenty five of his followers were injured in the attack. Criticising the attack, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed the authorities concerned to take action against those who carried out the assault.

On Tuesday, police filed a case against 30-35 leaders and activists of Muktijoddho Mancha, including Central General Secretary Al Mamun, and its DU unit General Secretary Yasir Arafat Turjo, for their alleged involvement in the incident. Later, Al Mamun and Yasir Arafat Turjo were arrested. They are currently being interrogated by the police.
