Govt takes initiatives to formulate logistics industry policy: Humayun

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Wednesday said the government has taken initiatives to formulate a logistics industry development policy. 

"An initiative has been taken to formulate a logistics industry development policy. The cooperation of all relevant ministries, departments, public and private institutions and domestic and international organisations will be taken to this end," he said. 

The minister said these while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop styled "Formulating National Logistics Industries Development Policy for Bangladesh: Experience from Global Good Practices" at a city hotel, said a press release. 

Humayun, in his speech, said the government has taken all possible measures for infrastructure development in the country. 

"Considering the logistics sector as an important component of infrastructural development, the Ministry of Industries has included it in the 'National Industrial Policy-2022' as a priority sector for export diversification. Simultaneously, 22 sub-sectors of logistics have also been included in the 'National Industrial Policy," he added.  

State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, Senior Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana, President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md Jashim Uddin and World Bank's Practice Manager for Transport in South Asia Dr Shomik Mehndiratta attended the workshop as special guest while Chairperson of the Trustee Board of Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) Nihad Kabir presided over the workshop.
