Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader in the capital on Sunday said Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has launched actions in a bid to uproot weeds and other bad elements from Awami League and all of its affiliated bodies to keep the party’s image intact, reports BSS.

“Not only in Dhaka and Chattogram, the purification drive will be conducted across the country to uproot the weeds from the party,” Obaidul Quader said while addressing as the chief guest at the representatives meeting of the six organising committees of Chattogram divisional Awami League at a local community centre on Sunday afternoon.

Hailing the recent drives by the law enforcers, Quader said tender manipulators, grabbers, extortionists and corrupt persons will be eliminated through the crackdown. He said law enforcement agencies have already taken a hard-line stance in the light with the zero-tolerance policy of the government against drugs, corruption, abuse of power and other irregularities.

“No matter, how the wrongdoers are politically influential, they must not be spared,” said Quader. “On the other hand, there is none to stall our journey towards development if we remain united,” he said. Mentioning that AL’s current agenda is to make people happy, Quader said the achievements of Sheikh Hasina and the country’s development activities cannot be held hostage due to the misdeeds of a few people.

He said Chattogram city will be brought under the metro rail network within a short possible time. “It’s good news for the residents of Chattogram that the government has taken an initiative to construct three lines of metro rail,” he said, adding that feasibility study will be conducted soon to introduce the metro rail service in the port city.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed me to begin the feasibility study of the mass rapid transit (MRT) lines and I have asked all concerned to start it soon,” said Quader.
