Free text books ready to be distributed

The government has taken all sorts of preparations to celebrate the free textbook distribution festival on the very first day of the New Year, 2020. More than 35.31 crore free textbooks will be distributed among the primary and the secondary level school students on 1 January across the country for the 2020 academic year.

For 4.30 crore students across the country, a total of 35.3144 crore textbooks will be distributed for free of cost. In the meantime, almost 99 percent of free textbooks have already reached schools in respective upazilas. Concerned officials of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) said they are hopeful of organizing the free textbook distribution festival as per the schedule.

Through a colorful programme at every concerned school, these new textbooks will be handed over to the students. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the free textbook distribution festival. It is to be noted, in the last decade, the government has distributed a total of 296 crore textbooks among the students. If the 2020 year added, the total amount will stand at 351.52 crore textbooks.

“All preparations for the distribution of free textbooks have been completed. We have already sent 98 percent textbooks to the Upazila and district levels. Rest two percent will also be sent within a day or two,” Narayan Chandra Shaha, Chairman of National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) told Bangladesh Post.

A total of 35,31,54,638 textbooks have been printed for the year 2020. Most of the books have already reached to district and Upazila level, NCTB sources said. Member of the NCTB (textbook) Professor Farhadul Islam said, “There is no problem with the textbooks of 2020. The majority of the books have already gone to different parts of the country. The rest of the books will reach before the book festival.”
