Govt plans to formulate national manuscript for homeless people

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman on Saturday said the government is planning to formulate national manuscript for homeless people due to climate change and national disasters, reports BSS.

“We want to build the country as a developed and prosperous one, so the government is planning to formulate national manuscript for homeless people due to climate change and national disasters,” he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled, ‘The management of displacement due to climate change and national disasters affairs draft and suggestions of civic society’ held in the city, said a press release.

“We are taking suggestions from experts for making the draft…It would be more realistic and fruitful in implementation if more experts are involved in making the draft,” he said.

Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Senior Secretary of Foreign Ministry M Shahidul Huq, Additional Secretary of Disaster Management and Relief M Mohsin, climate expert Dr Atiq Rahman also spoke, among others.

Speakers said, every year, sudden and slow onset natural hazards lead to forced displacement across the country. Sea level rise, storm surges, tropical cyclones, drought, landslides, riverbank erosion, flooding, salinity and water logging all displace large numbers of people from their homes and lands, they said.

According to the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), one in every 7 people in Bangladesh will be displaced by climate change by 2050.
