Govt not to allow troublemakers: Kamal

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said the government would not allow troublemakers to create nuisance as the country is set to celebrate the 49th Victory Day today, reports BSS.

“Stern action will be taken if anyone tries to create anarchy centering the Victory Day,” he told BSS at his secretariat office in the capital on Sunday. Following the ‘zero tolerance policy’ against militancy and terrorism, the law enforcing agencies are on alert and vigilant to deal with the extremists, militants and other criminals, he said. Kamal said tight security arrangements were made for the Victory Day and adequate law enforcement personnel were deployed to strengthen surveillance, especially in Dhaka.

Besides, stringent security arrangements have been taken to celebrate the Victory Day in district towns across the country, the minister added. Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been deployed at different key points of the capital and security checkpoints has been set up while the RAB personnel have been patrolling to ensure security, he said.

The home minister said members of law enforcement and intelligence and will remain vigilant to thwart any unwanted situation. The National Mausoleum premise at Savar was brought under surveillance cameras to ensure fool-proof security. He said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to establish a crime and militancy-free society in line with the government’s ‘zero tolerance policy.

Meanwhile, the nation is set to celebrate the 49th Victory Day, marking the most precious day when the country was liberated from the Pakistani occupation forces after a nine-month-long bloodstained War of Liberation today. Forty-eight years back on December 16 in 1971, Bangladesh was born as an independent country under the leadership of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and after the supreme sacrifice of three million people and the honour of nearly half a million women.

Talking to BSS, Public Relation Officer of Home Ministry Sharif Mahmood Apu said the government is committed to ensure fool proof security to every citizen. “The DMP (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) has also taken special security measures on the occasion of the Victory Day to be celebrated today,” he said.

Apu, however, said that now police and intelligence agencies are on alert in dealing with any untoward situation for safety and security of the people. Apart from this, the DMP has issued guidelines for vehicular movement at key points in the capital on the occasion of Victory Day to be celebrated today.

In observance of the day, the Victory Day parade will take place at the National Parade Square in the city’s Agargaon area. The DMP Traffic Division has barred vehicular movement except sticker-holders on some major routes around the parade ground from 5am to 1pm.

The routes are: Khejur Bagan crossing-Aeroplane crossing; Rokeya Smarani-Mirpur 10 roundabout; Shyamoli Shishu Mela crossing-Agargaon light crossing-Rokeya Shoroni; Prime Minister’s Office-Agargaon Link Road; Bijoy Shoroni crossing-Aeroplane crossing; Crescent Lake-Ganabhaban crossing; and Ministry of Defence-Planning Commission-BICC crossing.
