Govt distributes 12,572 tonnes rice for flood affected people

A total of 12,572 metric tones of rice have so far been distributed among flood hit people in 33 districts across the country against the government’s total allocation of 19,510 metric tones of rice as humanitarian assistance, reports BSS.

The government has also distributed Taka 2,85,55,700 cash among the flood victims against the total allocation of Taka 4,27,00,000 till August 11, said an official handout on Wednesday.

Besides, the government has allocated Taka 1,54, 00, 000 for purchasing baby foods while Taka 98,07,106 has already been distributed, it said, adding Taka 3,30,00,000 has been allocated for purchasing cattle feed while Taka 1,97,14,000 has been distributed.

The government has also allocated 1,68,000 packets of dry food while 1,41,286 packets have already been distributed among flood affected people.

A total of 400 bundles of corrugated iron sheets have been distributed against the total allocation of 100 bundles while Taka 3,00,000 lakh has been distributed as housing grant against the total allocation of Taka 12,00,000.

There are 161 upazilas and 10,73 unions. The number of waterlogged families is 9,71,717 and the number of affected people is 54,51,586. The death toll from the floods has risen to 43 so far, added the release.

The government has opened 1,261 shelter centers in the flood prone areas where 39,942people have taken refuges while 66,897cattle have been taken to the shelter centres.

In the flood affected district, a total of 824 medical teams have been formed where 258 of them are functioning.

The flood affected districts are Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail, Manikganj, Faridpur, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Gopalganj, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Jamalpur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Brahmanbaria, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore, Sirajganj, Bogura, Pabna, Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj.
