Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee on Thursday denounced the US Human Rights report on Bangladesh.
“We are surprised and angered by the annual Human Rights report on Bangladesh, released by the US State Department recently.” said a statement signed by the central leaders of the Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee.
In the US Human Rights report, it was mentioned that Bangladesh’s biggest muslim political party ‘Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’ cannot enjoy constitutional rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly for the ‘harassment of law enforcement agencies’.
“We think this report is not only false but will fuel terrorist activities of ‘Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’ in this sub-continent including Bangladesh.” Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee said in the statement.
“Jamaat-e-Islami’ is a fascist, anti-democratic organisation, who is not obeying Bangladesh’s constitution. The High Court has canceled the registration of the Jamaat-e-Islami which opposed Bangladesh’s independence and many of whose leaders are now facing trials or have been convicted by special war crimes tribunals.” the statement said.
“We have been demanding a ban on the political activities of Jamaat-e-Islami for the last 31 years. If the US state department keeps on pro-Jamaat policy, it will thwart Bangladesh’s democratic developments and pose a threat to south Asia’s regional security.” the statement added.
