Fugitive JMB member held in capital

Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Police arrested an active member of the banned militant outfit 'Jamatul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB), from the city's Ashulia area on Friday night.

The arrested Md Anarul Islam, 30, is the son of M Mofiz Uddin of Sutipara Phultola village under Nilphamari Sadar upazila.

"Members of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police arrested Anarul following a overnight drive in Jirabo Magpie bus stand area under Ashulia thana around 6:30pm on Friday", said Police Super Mohammad Aslam Khan of ATU (Media and Awareness Wing).

The arrestee is a fugitive accused in a case filed under the Anti Terrorism Act, 2009, with Nilphamari Sadar police station.

The ATU official also said that Anarul, an active member of the banned terrorist group and a fugitive accused of more than 8 years, was working to spread terror among the public by promoting extremism.

Necessary legal action has been taken against him, he added.
