A court here sentenced four people to death on Wednesday for killing a boy in 2011.

The condemned convicts are Md Ismail Haque, 22, son of late Md Aftab Ali hailed from Puran Tetli village in Dakkhin Surma upazila, Md Mithun Mia, 20, son of Md Ishaque Mia of the same area, his brother Rubel, 18, and Biplab, 18, son of Rubel of South Bharthkhola in the city.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Md Muhitul Haque delivered the verdict. Junaid Hossain, 19, son of Md Abul Kashem of Suwajibari village in Laxmipur district, was acquitted as the allegation brought against him could not be proved.

Mozammel Haque Naim, a Class-IV student of Little Star Kindergarten, was kidnapped on August 14, 2011 for ransom while going to attend Tarabi prayers.  Later, Ismail and Mithun confessed to killing the boy for not getting the ransom after agitated locals caught them out of suspicion and gave them a good beating. Naim’s father Abdul Haque filed a case with Dakkhin Surma Police Station in this connection.
