Sheikh Hasina to AL leaders

Prime Minister and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday instructed the party leaders to complete full-fledge committees of units in different districts and work together to for the victory of party-nominated candidates in the upcoming by-elections.

She also directed all AL leaders and workers from the central to grassroots to work for the country and its people and for further strengthening the party.

Sheik Hasina came up with the instructions after joining an AL secretariat meeting from her official Ganabhaban residence through a video conference. The meeting was held at AL’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue with AL general secretary Obaidul Quader in the chair.

Addressing the AL leaders, Sheikh Hasina said, “You’ll have to take necessary measures for completing the full-fledged committees of the units in different districts as those have not yet been declared due to coronavirus outbreak, but their councils have already ended.”

She stressed the need for unity among the party leaders and activists for working in favour of the AL candidates in upcoming by-elections of several parliamentary seats and local bodies.

Sheikh Hasina said, “We’ll have to work together for the win of the party-nominated candidates in some upcoming by-polls despite the AL has huge votes in everywhere as the people have trust and confidence in the party.”

The PM asked the central committee leaders to carry out their respective duties sincerely and to go through the election manifesto, economic policy of the party and discuss those.

The AL chief also asked them to find out how many pledges of AL have been implemented and how many can be fulfilled in the coming days.

If you go through your own subjects, we’ll be able to go a longer way, she said.

Talking about the government-declared Tk 1.03 trillion stimulus packages for various sectors to offset the COVID-19 shock, she said trade and commerce along with development programmes in the country have been able to operate properly due this.

Hasina said the government is constructing 100 economic zones across the country for creating scopes for investment.

The AL chief asked her party central leaders to take care of the economic planning of the government and development programmes across the country so that these could be implemented properly.

We’ve to do what Bangladesh needs for its betterment and how the people of the country will be in good shape. Because, our works and thinking are pro-people. I hope that all will perform their respective duties with sincerity, she said.

Talking about some by-elections to be held in the coming days, Hasina said as per surveys trust and belief still there in Awmi League as votes for the party in all areas are much higher.

She laid emphasis on remaining united in the coming days so that the party-nominated candidates can win the elections.

Remembering former Indian president Pranab Mukherjee, Sheikh Hasina said he was a great friend of Bangladesh and the country has lost a trusted friend at his death.

The PM said Bangladesh is observing a one-day mourning showing respect to this great politician.

Praising the leaders and workers of her party, Sheikh Hasina said they stood beside the general people during corona crisis since it is the culture of the her party to work for humanity.

Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dipu Moni, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, Afzal Hossain, Asim Kumar Ukil, Faridunnahar Laili, Biplob Barua, Shammi Ahmed, Wasika Ayesha, among others, were present at the meeting.
