Flood situation improving in Netrakona

The flood situation in Durgapur and Kalmakanda upazilas in Netrakona is improving as the water level in major rivers in the district is in falling trend, reports BSS. 

Officials of local administration and Water Development Board(WDB) told BSS that flood situation in Barhatta upazila of the district has deteriorated due to heavy rainfall and onrush of water from upstream region. The water-levels of two major rivers—Sumeswari and Kangso of the district, were recorded a sharp fall in different points including Berisiri and Jaria points of the district during the last 24 hours.

However, the rivers were now flowing below of the danger levels in respective points, WDB in Netrakona office sources said.

Deputy commissioner Netrakona Main-UL-Islam told BSS that the overall flood situation in the two upazilas- Durgapur and Kalmaknada under the district has slightly improved today while the situation deteriorated in Barhatta upazila of the district.

He said more than 1000 people of the three upazilas were badly affected by the flash flooding in the twelve unions of the three upazilas till today.

The DC also said the district administration distributed 22 metric tons of rice and 600 packets of dry foods among the flood-hit people of the three food affected upazilas of the district.
