Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam on Wednesday said the government will construct five sewage treatment plants with a view to freeing Dhaka city and its surrounding rivers from pollution, reports BSS.

“Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant is going to be constructed at a cost of Taka 3,318 crore and other four plants will be built in Pagla, Rayer Bazar, Uttara and Mirpur,” said the minister while talking to journalists after visiting sewage lifting station located adjacent to Rampura Bridge and Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant situated in east Aftabnagar of the city.

Once the plant will come into operation, the waste will be burnt and the liquid refined waste will be released through cannel. As a result, pollution of river and environment will be reduced to a great extent, he added.

The minister urged the journalists to highlight the good works done by the current government saying the government has made a mega plan to turn Dhaka into an eye-catching city.

It is expected that Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant project work will be finished in 2022.

Additional Secretary of Local Government Division Md Johirul Islam, Managing Director Of Dhaka WASA Taskin A Khan and other senior officials, among others, accompanied the minister.
