Farida Parveen receives Firoza Begum Gold Medal

Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday honoured eminent singer Farida Parveen with the ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’, reports BSS. 

Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman handed over the medal to Farida Parveen at a function held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus.

 “Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal Trust Fund” of DU organised the function marking 93rd birth anniversary of late renowned singer Feroza Begum.

Being delighted to receive the award, prominent Lalon singer Farida remembered the memory of legendary Nazrul Sangeet Artiste Feroza Begum.

Akhtaruzzaman said Feroza Begum was a legendary figure who spread Nazrul Sangeet to the world.

ACI Foundation Chairman M Anis Ud Dowla, chairman of Feroza Begum Foundation and donor of the trust fund, gave the welcome speech upholding the dedication, sacrifices and practices for music of her sister Feroza Begum.

DU music department graduate Khandakar Anika Islam achieved ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ for getting the highest CGPA in Bachelor of Arts examination in 2018.

DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin, Dean of Arts Faculty Prof Dr Abu Md Delwar Hosain, among others, present on the occasion.

Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal Trust Fund was formed by her family with Taka 60 lakh on February 13, 2016 in memory of Feroza Begum who was born in July 28, 1926 and died in September 9, 2014.
