Losing their only bread earners, the family members of Nahid Hasan and Md Morsalin, two fatal victims of New Market clash, had been pushed into a confounded situation.

Instead of only mourning death of their loved ones and looking for justice, they had to pass time with severe uncertainty thinking about survival.

Being the victims of atrocities, they lost trust in human beings but within a week of the burial of their deceased family members, they realised that not hatred or cruelty but love and compassion have made life meaningful and the world livable.

Two hapless families finally have found ray of hope to come out of the uncertainty as Bashundhara Group donated Tk 2 million to the parents and wives of Nahid and Morsalin on Wednesday as part of its firm commitment towards the people and country.

Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Soban Anvir handed over the cheques to the affected families at his residence in the capital.

Eighteen-year-old Nahid Mia worked as a delivery assistant for a company named Data Tech Computer in Elephant Road. He was hacked with machetes on multiple occasions during the clashes on April 19.

Nahid married of Dalia Akhter Shila six months ago. The newlywed couple was living in Kamrangichar in the capital.

After receiving support from Bashundhara Group, Nahid wife burst into tears saying that who (Nahid ) passed away will never come back.

A native of Cumilla's Daudkandi, Morsalin lived in the capital's Kamrangirchar with his family. He leaves behind two children, aged 6 and 4.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan knew about the sufferings of the families through media. He directed to extend support to the families as the story on desire of Eir attires of Morsalin’s daughter made him shocked.

Nahid’s father Nadim Mia, mother Nargis Begum and wife Shila and her father Md Dalim received the donation. From Morsalin’s family, his mother Nurjahan Begum and wife Mitu were present on the occasion.

Nahid’s mother Nargis Begum hoped the support from Bashundhara Group will help them create an earning source for the families.

Morsalin’s mother Nurjahan Begum has been suffering for heart disease. She got a relief to continue the treatment with the support of the Bashundhara Group.

“Another son, Nur Mohammad works in Gausia (a market). We tried to set up a shop for him managing earnings for the family,” Nurjahan Begum told.

East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL) Director Imdadul Haque Milan said Bashundhara Group has been continuing humanitarian programme that is rare in the country.

“As per directive of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, the industrial conglomerate extended food support to 50 thousands of families in North Bengal for a month. The Group continued support for improvement of livelihood of the poor. In very recent time, Bashundhara Group supported the meritorious students who qualified for MBBS admission,” he said.

Bashundhara Group Media Advisor Mohammad Abu Tayeb, News24 TV Executive Editor Rahul Raha and Chief Coordinator to Managing Director Mohammed Golam were present on the occasion.

Nahid and Morsalin were killed during clash between New Market employees and Dhaka College students in the capital recently. On midnight of April 18, Dhaka College students clashed with the New Market traders.
