Expatriate killed over Tk 3 thousand

A Saudi expatriate named Taizul Islam (35) was stabbed to death in a dispute over Tk 3,000 in Hossainpur of Kishoreganj district. At that time 3 people including his brother and nephew were seriously injured.

The incident took place at Hajipur Bazar of the upazila around 8pm on Tuesday (September 15).

The deceased was identified as Taizul Islam, son of Mahtab Uddin of Garmachua Namapara village under Sidla union. He recently returned home from Saudi Arabia.

According to the police, Bakul Mia, a brick layer from Pechera village in Jinari Union, owed Tk 3,000 from Aminul Haque, the expatriate’s brother. This created agitation among them.

People from both sides sat in arbitration at Ripon Member’s shop in Hajipur Bazar of Jinari Union on Tuesday evening to settle the matter. At one stage of the argument, the opponents attacked with sharp weapons. Taizul Islam, his elder brother Aminul Haque, nephew Shamim and Jalal Uddin of the same area were seriously injured.

The injured were taken to Hossainpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Taizul dead. Shamim has been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Hossainpur police officer in charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman, confirming the incident, said the body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital Morgue for autopsy. Preparations are underway to file a case in this regard.
