Ex-JPC president Hasan Shahriar passes away

Jatiya Press Club (JPC) former president and former executive editor of the daily Ittefaq, Hasan Shahriar passed away while undergoing treatment at a city hospital on Saturday. He was 76.

The veteran journalist breathed his last at Impulse Hospital at around 12 noon, immediate past president of JPC Saiful Alam told media.

President M Abdul Hamid expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the senior journalist Hasan Shahriar.

In a condolence message, the President recalled the contribution of Shahriar in the field of journalism with due respect.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of former President of National Press Club and veteran journalist Hasan Shahriar.

In a condolence message, Sheikh Hasina said Hasan Shahriar’s role in the country’s journalism will be remembered.

The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of former President of Jatiya Press Club and veteran journalist Hasan Shahriar.

In a message of condolence, the minister said Hasan Shahriar’s dedicated contribution to journalism for a long time will be remembered.

Shahriar, also a two-term president of Commonwealth Journalists’ Association (CJA), was admitted to the hospital at around 1:30am on Friday with symptoms of coronavirus.

Later, he tested positive for the virus.
