The Department of Law, East West University (EWU) organized a half-day long Study Tour – 2019 at the Liberation War Museum (LWM), Agargaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh on Saturday.

Total 90 selected law students and faculty members of the Department of Law, EWU took part in the said event.

Throughout the tour, the students and faculty members watched documentary films in relation to the history of 1971 Liberation War, visited different galleries of the LWM which introduce various aspects of the Liberation War, and discussed with the freedom-fighters who are involved with the LWM about their contributions during war and afterwards.

Later on, all the students attended an examination at the LWM based on the history of the 1971 Liberation War and their experiences of visiting the museum. Three of the best scorer students have been awarded with books by the LWM for their excellent performances in the examination.

Imran Hasan Shaikat, who stood first in the examination, expressed that, “during our visit at the galleries, we came to know about many historical artifacts including personal belongings, weapons and human remains in relation to our Liberation War 1971. We also went through many archived documents and personal histories of the freedom fighters. We learned about many unknown histories and realized that we still do not know the actual history and true facts about our Liberation War. The museum showed us, in short, the images of liberation struggle, importance of leadership, inhumanity of Pakistani militaries, patriotism of Bengali people, and birth of a new nation. I believe that the visit to the LWM is a very important tool for teaching the youths and giving them a sense of pride about our Liberation War. I would like to thank the Department of Law, EWU for giving us such an opportunity to visit the LWM.”

Mahua Zahur, chairperson and senior lecturer, Department of Law, EWU was the initiator to organize this study tour. Md Pizuar Hossain, lecturer, Department of Law was in charge of organizing the said event. Mohammed Shahjalal, senior lecturer and Mridul Bepari lecturer of Department of Law, EWU visited the LWM with the students.

The faculty members believe that the experiences of this tour have certainly encouraged the law students to know more about the history of Bangladesh, the leaders, freedom fighters, beerangonas, and all those people who have contributed to achieve the victory of our country.
