‘Everyone must work together to solve water logging in Dhaka’

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed MP said that people should work in unison along with various government agencies to alleviate water logging in the capital.

He made the remarks after inspecting various water bodies, lakes and canals owned by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and the Capital Development Authority on Thursday, stated a press release issued by the ministry on Thursday.

He said the growing population of the capital Dhaka and the indiscriminate use of land often resulted in waterlogging in various places due to heavy rains.

Natural causes as well as man-made factors are responsible for most of these waterlogging.

In many cases, obstruction of the normal flow of water creates waterlogging in various installations. In addition, the discharge of solid waste into the drainage and sewerage line often disrupts the normal flow of water and causes waterlogging in light rainfall. In these cases, it is not possible to solve the problem by government action alone.

In this case, there should be necessary awareness and cooperation among the local people. A permanent solution to this problem is possible if various government agencies and local people work together with sincerity.

The state minister directed the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and the Capital Development Authority to take necessary steps to prevent possible waterlogging in the current monsoon season.

Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority ABM Amin Ullah Nuri and other high level officials of the ministry were present on the occasion.

After the inspection, the state minister planted a fruit, a forest and a medicinal tree on Road Island in Sector 18 of Uttara.
