Ensure safe Eid journey

Parliamentary committee asks road transport ministry

Parliamentary standing committee on Road Transport and Bridges ministry on Thursday asked the ministry to ensure safe journey to homebound people during the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. It also asked the ministry to remove the electric poles and speed breakers from beside the roads so that any unwanted accident could be avoided. The watchdog came up with the recommendations at its first meeting with Tangail-7 lawmaker Akabbar Hossain in the chair.

Members of the committee – Enamul Haque, Hasibur Rahman Swapan, Abu Zahir, Salim Uddin Tarafdar, Sheikh Salah Uddin, Syed Abu Hossain, and Rabeya Alim attended the meeting. The committee discussed different activities of Road Transport and Highway Division, and Bridges Division under the ministry.
The watchdog also asked the ministry to take necessary arrangements so that its member could visit the development works of Padma Bridge project.

The committee at the beginning of its discussion, prayed for the sound cure of Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader. Senior secretary of Bridges Division, Secretary of Road Transport and Highway Division, and other officials concerned were present at the meeting.
