A standing bus with no passengers got burnt due to a sudden fire. The incident took place at Katia Amtala intersection of Satkhira city around 8:30 am on Friday.

Kabir Hossain, the helper of the bus that caught fire, said that the bus (Sylhet-J-11-0729) was kept at Katia Amtala intersection on Satkhira-Khulna road on Thursday night to go to Bagerhat as a reserve. A truck was also standing in front of the bus.

He was cleaning the bus with water around half past eight on Friday morning. Leaving the door open, he went to fetch water from the nearby tap in a bucket. After a while, he saw the fire in the bus and rushed. 80 percent of the seats inside the bus, including the engine, were burnt before the locals extinguished the fire with water.

Golam Morshed, the vice president of Satkhira Sadar Upazila Awami League and the outgoing member secretary of the district bus minibus owner association, Golam Morshed, said that the election of the district bus owner association will be held on December 3. A mosquito coil placed in the middle of it, or by the staff of the bus, or a shorted circuit may cause a fire. However, the police will be able to investigate the cause of the fire.

Ismail Hossain, sub-inspector of Satkhira Sadar police station, said that an investigation is underway to find out the cause of the bus fire.
