Eight meritorious DU students get scholarship

Eight meritorious students from different departments of Dhaka University have received the ‘Md Nurul Islam Memorial Trust Fund Scholarship’. The award ceremony was organized at the union office on Tuesday evening at the initiative of the 4th Class Employees Union. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Muhammad Samad handed over the scholarship checks to the students as the chief guest at the ceremony.

University Treasurer and President of the Trust Fund Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin addressed the occasion as special guest. Former MP, Member of the Board of Trustees and Md Nurul Islam's wife poet Ruby Rahman and Registrar of the university Md Enamuzzaman gave speeches during the ceremony. The president of the DU 4th Class Employees Union Md Shahjahan presided over the ceremony. The event was convened by general secretary of the union Md Selim Mia.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Muhammad Samad congratulated the scholarship students and paid tribute to the memory of Md Nurul Islam. He said that Md Nurul Islam's contribution to establishment of various rights the 4th class employees of Dhaka University including festival allowance, dress and clothing is unmatched. Following his ideals, he urged the new generation to work for the welfare of the common people.

The recipients are Tanjila Hossain, Md Asif Ahmed, Md Tanvir Hossain Shanto, Md Jamilur Reza Ifti, A B M Nazmul Haque Khan, Md Raminul Islam Rifat, Israt Jahan and Gaurav Chandra Roy. An award giving ceremony for the sports competition of 4th class employees was also held.
