Edn instts to reopen soon after vaccination of students: Dipu Moni

Educational institutions will be opened in a short time with the Covid-19 vaccination of students, said Education Minister Dipu Moni.

She said that even though the educational institutions are closed, online learning is ongoing and work is underway to further improve the online education system in the future.

She told this while addressing a webinar titled “Role of Education in Nation Building: Bangabandhu's Education Philosophy and the Current Education System in Bangladesh’’ organized by the Department of Chemistry, Jagannath University (JU) on the occasion of Mujib Year celebrations on Tuesday night.

Speaking as the chief guest, the education minister said, "Television classes have started 12 days after the closure of educational institutions. There is no denying the importance of online classes. We have made it possible earlier than it was supposed to be."

Asserting the initiatives to have taken to make Bangabandhu's education philosophy up-to-date, Dipu Moni said we all need to work with teacher recruitment policy, UGC competency law, education commission so that no one can raise any question about transparency in teacher recruitment. At present the basic principles of education are values, ethics and skills. Work is underway to improve the quality of education.

As part of this, the government works to provide books free of costs, increase literacy rate, build public and private universities, apply information technology in education, expand technical education and provide teacher training.

Emphasizing on technical education, the minister said technical schools are being set up in every upazila. There are efforts to use the degree certificates issued by them in equivalent institutions. The government is laying emphasis on the expansion of ICT skills, language education, science education.

Calling for emphasis on the practicality of knowledge, she quoted, "In addition to being skilled people, we need to be humane. We need to not just help students acquire knowledge but to make them fit for jobs. That's why teachers need to be more diverse."

The webinar was conducted by Prof of Chemistry Subrata Chandra Roy and Associate Professor Nafis Ahmed, while it was presided over by Vice-Chancellor of the University Md Imdadul Haque. Former Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan was the chief negotiator and Vice Chancellor of the National University Prof Dr Mashiur Rahman was the special guest.
