E-commerce now a major employment platform: Jabbar

Minister for Posts, Telecommuni­cation and Information Technology Mustafa Jabbar on Sunday said e-commerce has emerged as a major platform for creating jobs and entrepreneurship for young people in the country, BSS reports.

“In the future, not only trade, but also every field of life including education, agriculture, medicine and manufacturing will move towards the digital highways. The process of building digital highways will be completed on the golden jubilee of independence of the country,” he said.

He was speaking at a seminar on digital commerce in the global market in post COVID-19 period organized by e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) as the chief guest here.

In order to make people’s life easier during the corona period, 98 percent area of the country has already been brought under the 4G network, he added.

“Work is underway to provide high speed broadband internet in every union of the country including haors, islands and remote char areas,” he said, adding that all works will be completed on the golden jubilee of independence.

With e-Cab President Shami Kaiser in the chair, the programme was addressed, among others, by lawmaker Fahim Razzaq, Land Secretary Mostafizur Rahman, Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Md Afzal Hossain and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder.
