Drug peddler killed in Benapole ‘gunfight’

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight between the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the drug dealers at the Agravulot border in Benapole on Saturday morning.  

The deceased was identified as Sujan Mia 35, son of Mostafa Mia of Kagojpukur village in Benapole municipality.

BGB’s habilder Akmol Hossain was injured in the incident. He was taken to Dhaka by helicopter for better treatment.

Lt. Col. Imran Ullah Sarkar, commanding officer of the 21 BGB Battalion, said that on information, the BGB men conducted a raid at Agrovulot area around 4:00 am. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the drug dealers attacked and opened fire on the BGB team that triggered the gun battle.

At one stage, bullet injured Sujon was caught. He was taken to Jashore General Hospital where he was declared dead.

Huge Phensidyl and 4 powerful bombs were recovered from the spot. A  RAB bomb disposal team visited the spot to disable the bombs.
