Drive against drug trade, gambling begins next week

Law and order enforcement Agencies will start a joint drive against the criminals including drug traders, gamblers, muggers, youth gang from next week to combat crimes across the district including the city.

“Women and Children related crimes have been increasing in the society. Destructive activities of so called ‘Kishor Gang’ also are in the uptrend. Law enforcers will have to take action against the criminals by next week,” said Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Md Moniruzzaman Talukder while presided over a law and order meeting here.

The district administration has conducted three separate drives against the drug peddlers and recovered huge drugs in last month, the DC asked authorities concerned to produce witnesses before the court for speedy disposal of the drugs related cases. “Women and Children repression related crimes have been increasing gradually side by side drug related cases in the society. Motorcycle accidents are also increasing for reckless driving by youths (Kishor Gang), he said. He also urged the Freedom Fighters, public representatives, teachers, NGO personnel, journalists, Religious scholars for working to enhance public awareness side by side local administration and law enforcement agencies.

Police is working relentlessly to combat drug trading, gambling and different digital crimes including mobile phone affection crimes, Said Superintendent of Khulna Police Md Mahbub Hossain.

Police arrested members of motorcycle stealing syndicate and recovered eight stolen motorcycles, he said, adding that cultural activities, different playing can refrain youths from the crimes and addiction. Deputy Director of Narcotics Control Department of Khulna Md Mizanur Rahman said drives against drug peddlers are ongoing. Department of Narcotics Control has filed 35 cases after conducting 228 drives in last July. Besides, Police recovered 4,666 pieces of yaba tablets, 27 kgs of hemp and 50 bottles of phensydil syrup in the same time. He also suggested starting motivational activities through seminar, debate at all educational institutions. Informing law and order situation in Khulna, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulak Kumar Mondal said number of case filing are reducing in the city and district in last month than the previous month of June.

Administrator of Khulna Zila Parishad shikh Harun-ur-Rashid, Khulna Press Club President S M Nazrul Islam, former president S M Zahid Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed, among others, addressed the meeting.
