A Constitution expert in association with Jamaat and other anti-liberation forces is trying to destabilise the country. Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim came up with the allegation at a discussion on Thursday organised by Sampriti Bangladesh marking the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Indicating at Oikya Front convener Dr Kamal Hossain without mentioning name, Rezaul said, “The fact that a person like him leads the 20-party alliance and Jamaat certainly exposes his disregard to the spirit of the liberation war.” “That a constitution expert like him announced that he would go to court for bail for a person convicted of corruption is a testament of the fact that he wants corrupt people to come forward,” he added.

He said, “If they really want a non-communal Bangladesh, they should speak clearly against those who instigate communalism among the people. There is no chance of being a neutral intellectual. I become surprised when the politicians of this country speak in favour of the corrupt in talk shows on television every night.”

“No temple is attacked during Durga Puja in Bangladesh. The rituals of the Buddhist community are not affected. Christians are safe in the church. Bangabandhu wanted this Bangladesh,” he added. “On home coming day, he took a piece of land in Bangladesh after getting off from plane and said, "I will repay this love of Bangladesh with the blood of my chest,” the minister said, adding, “On August 15 1975, he was not alone, his whole family paid love with blood.”

Former Supreme Court Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik also spoke at the discussion while the Convener of Sampritir Bangladesh Pijush Bandhopadhyay was in the chair.
